This day is grounded in the Museum’s new exhibition This Is New York: 100 Years of the City in Art and Pop Culture in honor of the centennial anniversary of the founding of the Museum of the City of New York as one of the city’s most prominent storytellers. This exhibition explores the many ways that the city has inspired storytelling across art forms. It features both famous and lesser-known depictions of New York in film and television, visual and performing arts, music, poetry and literature, and even fashion— painting a collective, moving, and sometimes funny version of a city that has captured the imagination of the world.
This interdisciplinary day includes workshops that target curriculum standards for K-12 educators.
The Museum of the City of New York is a certified CTLE provider. Participation in this full-day program provides 5 hours of CTLE credit.

Featured Partner: Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS)
Visual Thinking Strategies is a facilitation method and professional development program that fosters collaborative, inclusive, community-building dialogue that has the power to change the way we relate to one another as teachers, learners, and colleagues. At its core, VTS is a listening practice; an opportunity for understanding more deeply how we each make meaning from our visual world. Learn more at VTShome.org.
About the Workshop:
This Introduction to Visual Thinking Strategies is an immersive experience designed as a quick primer to the learner-centered process of VTS facilitated discussion. While not a VTS training, participants will experience firsthand the incredible potential of art as a catalyst for critical thinking, communication, social-emotional growth, and problem-solving skills through breaking down the core elements and theoretical insights that make VTS discussions an artful journey of discovery. Each 1-hour session will take place in the galleries and classrooms of The Museum of the City of New York with a VTS Trainer and Coach.
