ROOTS AND RISE: A NYC BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION

Join the Museum of the City of New York and the NYC Public Advocate's Office this Black History Month as we celebrate the rich and vibrant legacy of Black culture, history, and contributions to New York City. This intergenerational event will showcase the diverse narratives of Black New Yorkers, past and present, through a blend of storytelling, music, art, and discussion geared towards families, adults and visitors of all ages. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with exhibitions highlighting the pioneering figures and communities that shaped the city.

  • Arts and Crafts Activities for Families: 11 AM - 4 PM
  • Film Screenings: Hughes Dream Harlem & Black New Yorkers: A Journey (11:30 AM)-  RSVP Here
  • StoryTime (ages 3 to 6): 11 AM, 1:30 PM, & 3 PM 
  • Gallery Tours of Changing the Face of Democracy: Shirley Chisholm at 100 and Activist New York:
    •  1:30 PM & 2:30 PM (Adult Tour); 12:30 PM & 2:30 PM (Family Tour) 
  • Book Talk: I am Nobody’s Slave with Author, Lee Hawkins (1 PM) - RSVP Here
