Join us for a look at the history and legacy of legendary NY hip hop trio, De La Soul with Marcus J Moore, author of the new De La Soul biography, High and Rising: A Book about De La Soul. Marcus will be joined in conversation by Sheldon Pearce, writer and music editor at NPR as he explores the history of the iconic group and his journey through life.  

About the Author and Moderator: 
Marcus J. Moore is a music journalist, editor, curator, pundit, professor, and author of The Butterfly Effect: How Kendrick Lamar Ignited the Soul of Black America. He co-leads the jazz-focused “5 Minutes That Will Make You Love...” series at the New York Times. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, NPR, Pitchfork, TIME, TIDAL, GQ, The Washington Post, and Rolling Stone. In HIGH AND RISING, Moore offers a stunning cultural biography of the group while also weaving in a deeply personal comingof-age story about his journey through life with the music of his favorite band as a backdrop

Sheldon Pearce is the editor at NPR music running rap and r&b. From 2020 to 2022, he was the music writer & editor for the New Yorker and previously worked for pitchfork from 2016-2020. He has also written for: The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Fader, The Guardian, I-D, Dazed, etc. Pearce is the author of the 2021 book, Changes: An Oral History of Tupac Shakur and is a recurring guest on the NY Times show Popcast and NPR's All Things Considered.
