Get creative and relax with drinks in after hours Sketch & Sip sessions at the Museum this spring and summer. Simon Levenson, fine artist and professional art instructor, will guide you through sketching exercises as you explore the artwork on view. Each session features a different theme and visits to special exhibitions such as New York at Its Core and A City Seen.

Salsa in New York

The story of New York salsa, an up-tempo performance of percussive Latin music and Afro-Caribbean-infused dance, is one of cultural fusion, artistry, and skilled marketing. Rhythm & Power: Salsa in New York (on view through November 26, 2017) illuminates salsa as a social movement from the 1960s to the present, exploring how immigrant and migrant communities in New York City—most notably from Cuba and Puerto Rico—nurtured and developed salsa, growing it from a local movement playing out in the city’s streets

Maggie coordinates multi-session, afterschool programs, which offer students behind-the-scenes access to the Museum to learn directly from the collection with the opportunity to apply their new knowledge and skills through hands-on activities. Teaching at the Museum of the City of New York allows Maggie to share her love of Museums, passion for New York City, and affinity for the arts and history with a wide-range of students and teachers, encouraging them to be life-long learners and Museum goers.
