100 Years: City Planning, Storytelling, and Activism in NYC
For kids who dare to think of new stories about New York City and share through doodles, comics, character design, animation, photographs, digital illustrations, and immersive VR and AR experiences! In honor of the centennial of the founding of the Museum of the City of New York as the city’s storyteller, campers will interact with the exhibition This Is New York: 100 Years of the City in Art and Pop Culture and explore the many ways that the city has inspired storytelling.
Campers will write original stories, design new characters and worlds, learn techniques to master their storytelling, doodling, and clay modeling skills, and publish their very own comics, photograph series, animation, and zines! Campers will also explore ways to use their voice for a cause they care about, inspired by the exhibition Activist New York. In addition, participants will bring imaginary worlds to life through Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Tinkercad, CoSpaces (for VR and AR), p5.js, and more. We'll cover the fundamentals of digital design - editing photos, designing graphics, and 3D modeling techniques - while working with the coding language and tools that are compatible with their level of expertise. This program is a dream for kids who love to express themselves using a variety of media.
Recommended for kids 8-12
