We invite you to celebrate art-making and explore its ongoing meaning and role in justice, equality, and freedom for all with the help of the Wide Awakes and the Katal Center with Josh MacPhee on June 11th from 11am–2pm.

This event is a drop-in, art-making workshop for families and children. Free with museum admission. Registration is recommended.

Please bring a light-colored t-shirt or tote bag of your choosing for your screen printing design.

About the Wide Awakes: Inspired by the Wide Awakes of 1860, a group of young abolitionists who banded together and devised a radical plan to support abolitionist efforts, the Wide Awakes have re-emerged to fight for justice, democracy, and welfare for all people. They are an open-source network that radically reimagines the future through creative collaboration.

About the Katal Center for Equity, Health, and Justice: Katal Center for Equity, Health, and Justice is a community organization that works in Connecticut and New York to strengthen the people, policies, institutions, and movements that advance equity, health, and justice for everyone. About Josh MacPhee: Josh MacPhee is a designer, artist, and archivist. He is a founding member of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative (Justseeds.org) and Interference Archive, a public collection of cultural materials produced by social movements (InterferenceArchive.org).

This program is part of the Museum’s Freedom Week: A Journey into Art and Activism celebration in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of our ongoing exhibition, Activist New York.
