School is out and summer is in! Visit our NYC Discovery Lab to explore how New Yorkers have spent their summers – from the opening of Coney Island Amusement Park in the late 19th century to the present day – and take part in fun activities for all ages.

Saturdays and Sundays 11am to 4pm.

Take part in a range of activities that explore the many summer traditions New Yorkers have maintained over more than a century.

  • Learn more about New York City’s beaches through an iSpy game and touch object activity inspired by Malcah Zeldis’ 1973 painting Coney Island/Brighton Beach.
  • Explore the history of Brooklyn’s Steeplechase Park through a gallery-based activity and create your own amusement park ride or carousel horse.
  • Test your knowledge in a game of spin the wheel: baseball edition to explore the city’s longstanding history of baseball.
  • Pick up a scavenger hunt to discover the many ways New Yorkers have beat the summer heat!

NYC Discovery Lab July programs are from July 6th to July 28st.
