Don't miss this outdoor screening of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (Kerry Conran, 2004, 106 mins). The film is set in an alternate New York City in the 1930s, blending art deco aesthetics and futuristic technology for a unique visual adventure. Follow Sky Captain (Jude Law) and reporter Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow) as they uncover the mystery of giant robot attacks and the disappearances of prominent scientists. 

Filled with richly detailed cityscapes and iconic buildings inspired by 1930s architecture, this film captures themes featured throughout our new exhibition, Art Deco City. Special pre-screening discussion with the film's Production Designer & Art Director, Kevin Conran.

About the Speaker: 
Kevin Conran is a visionary artist and designer renowned for co-creating Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow, a film that revolutionized digital filmmaking. His extensive role transcended traditional art direction; functioning as a one-man art department, he designed the film’s sets, props, and vehicles, while earning the Saturn Award for Best Costume Design. With a career spanning TV, film, and animation, Kevin has worked with major studios like DreamWorks Animation and Warner Bros., where his innovative methods have set new industry benchmarks, particularly in the acclaimed TV series Dragons: Riders of Berk. Besides his artistic achievements, Kevin has significantly contributed to the technical side of media, leading Digital Intermediate processes for both film and television. An acclaimed speaker and educator, he teaches Design & Color for Animation at ArtCenter College of Design, continually pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling in his ongoing projects.
