A darling of Manhattan social circles, Cecil Beaton made a mark on fashion and portrait photography, as well as costume and scenic design with his eclectic vision and social charm.
From the 1920s to the 1960s, Manhattan’s high society embraced British-born photographer and designer Cecil Beaton (1904-80). Cecil Beaton: The New York Years assembles Beaton’s photographs, drawings, and costumes, chronicling his impact on city culture. A font of ideas, the eclectic Beaton left his mark not only on fashion and portrait photography but also in costume and scenic design for Broadway, ballet, and the opera.
