Celebrate Black History Month at the Museum of the City of New York! We’ll be hosting a live jazz performance, dance workshop, film screening, and programming for both educators and students.
- Hidden Voices of New York City: Bayard Rustin - Educator Workshop - Join us in celebrating the life and work of Bayard Rustin this Black History Month as we explore resources for teaching his underrepresented legacy in this FREE virtual workshop. Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:00pm
- Hidden Voices of New York City: Bayard Rustin-Student Workshop (Grades 3-5) - We invite students to join us for this FREE virtual program for grades 3-5 to learn more about the life and activism of Bayard Rustin. Thursday, Feb. 16 at 9:30am and 11:30am
- Footprints: A Dance Workshop - A family-friendly dance workshop (FREE for children) exploring the dance of the African Diaspora led by Harlem School of the Arts teaching artists. Sunday, Feb. 19, 11:00am - 12:30pm

Black History Month Field Trips for Grades K-12:
What Makes New York New York? People, Technology, and Culture: Black History Month Field Trip 60min program for Grades K-12. From Bill “Bojangles” Robinson’s dancing shoes that dazzled Broadway goers during the Harlem Renaissance to organizing around Robert Moses’ use of eminent domain to transform the creative center of San Juan Hill to what is now Lincoln Center, students will investigate objects that tell rich stories of the creativity and resiliency of Black New Yorkers as they have met the challenges of the 20th and 21st centuries. This field trip will be available beginning February 15 and can be booked through the end of the school year.
Activist New York: Black History Month Edition 60min program for Grades 4–12. Engage your students in New York’s long history of Black social activism. Inspired by original artifacts and visuals, students will discuss topics ranging from abolition to Civil Rights and the current Movement for Black Lives and will participate in the tradition of activism by creating a button championing the change they would like to make. This program can also be done for credit for students participating in the NYCDOE Civics for All initiative. This field trip will be available beginning February 15 and can be booked through the end of the school year.
