Jackie Robinson made history as the first African American in Major League Baseball when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. In the Dugout with Jackie Robinson showcases 31 stunning black and white photographs, some of them never before seen by the public, along with nine vintage Look magazines in which they were published. This exciting exhibition offers a behind the scenes look at Robinson the athlete, civil rights advocate, and family man, and marks a pivotal point in the history of baseball and the fight towards racial equality through the lens of the day’s popular picture press. In the Dugout with Jackie Robinson was exhibited at the Museum of the City of New York January 31, 2019 – September 19, 2019, and was a co-presentation between the Museum of the City of New York and the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
