Explore Staten Island’s transformation from farm, to suburb, to urban center, and beyond.
From Farm to City: Staten Island, 1661–2012 highlights changing land use patterns on the island that has been a vital part of New York life for more than 350 years. The exhibition illuminates Staten Island's evolution, from a rural area comprised of farms, estates, and fishing ports, to a borough, suburban in character, made up of detached homes, small businesses, and local industries, to an increasingly dense and diverse place that boasts striking vistas, scenic parks, and a lively downtown.
The exhibition is a co-presentation of the Museum of the City of New York, Staten Island Historical Society at Historic Richmond Town, and the Staten Island Museum.
