Chief of Staff & Strategy

MCNY is launching a series of transformative initiatives to increase access to its exhibitions and collections; grow visitorship and educational outreach; and better serve its iconic city. The Chief of Staff & Strategy is a dynamic and strategic leader of the Executive team that will be responsible for leading special projects, including strategic planning and new business initiatives; facilitate coordination and communication across departments; ensure alignment of institutional goals across departments; and represent the Museum as a member of its leadership team. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the President.

Manager, Technology Operations

The Technology Operations Manager is an essential member of the Information Technology (IT) team that will be responsible for overseeing the Museum’s IT and AV operations. This dynamic role ensures the seamless functioning of technical services across the Museum, including live events, exhibitions, and daily operations. The position requires strong leadership, strategic vendor management, and hands-on technical expertise to support the Museum's administration, front-facing operations, and behind-the-scenes infrastructure. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Director of IT.

Chief Development Officer 

The Chief Development Officer is a dynamic and strategic leader of the Executive team that will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the museum's operations, exhibitions, programs, and capital initiatives. This position oversees a staff of at least six team members, plus consultants and contractors. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the President.

Manager, Field Trip Experiences  

The Manager, Field Trip Experiences is an essential member of the Education team plays a pivotal role in bringing dynamic, educational experiences to life for school and camp groups. This position is primarily responsible for the seamless coordination and fulfillment of all field trips, including scheduling, logistical support, and ensuring exceptional teaching quality. The Manager collaborates closely with cross-departmental teams to guarantee the smooth processing of groups and maintain accurate data tracking and reporting. In addition to overseeing logistics, the Manager will also take the lead on guiding field trips when needed, depending on scheduling and educator availability. This is a full-time, regular position that works in tandem with the Assistant Director of Student and Family Learning and reports directly to the Director of Education.

Manager, Development Operations  

The Development Operations Manager is an essential member of the Development team that will be responsible for managing the overall operational efficiencies of the Development department. Key responsibilities encompass overseeing and optimizing the Development team’s use of Museum databases (in particular, Altru); managing gift entry and acknowledgement processes; delivering regular reports to the Museum’s Finance department; coordinating intra- and inter- departmental meetings; and providing administrative support. The Development Operations Manager must be highly analytical and detail-oriented, and possess a solid understanding of fundraising fundamentals. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Executive Vice President.

Museum Educator – Bilingual SP/ENG  

The Bilingual Museum Educator is an essential member of the Education team that will be responsible for providing interactive experiences for K-12 audiences in Spanish and English. Educators fulfill the Museum’s Education and Engagement mission and contribute to the future of the city by engaging learners in examining the city’s past so that they may understand the present and envision their role in shaping the future. Alongside the Museum’s Education department, Educators will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a passion for advancing equity and addressing structural racism within nonprofit organizations. Educators will lead field trips and student experiences in the Museum of the City of New York’s innovative gallery spaces, through virtual teaching. Additionally, educators participate in additional projects, including professional learning workshops for teachers, family and community events, and social impact programming at offsite locations around the city or in schools. This is a part-time, regular position that reports directly to Manager of Student Learning and Experience.

Director of Major and Individual Gifts

The Director of Major and Individual Gifts is an essential member of the Development team that will be responsible for managing the Museum’s individual funder portfolio. This role focuses on raising funds from individuals through membership, annual gifts, planned gifts, and major gifts overseeing all individual giving activities. The Director also leads a team of three staff members dedicated for major gift cultivation and stewardship, patron communications, household and library member renewals and reporting, membership retention and acquisition, and organizing events in conjunction with other Development team staff. Additionally, the Director secures restricted gifts for Museum exhibitions, public programs, and education programs. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Executive Vice President.

Major Gifts Officer

The Major Gifts Officer is an essential member of the Development team that will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective major gift donors and planned giving donors. This involves full use of moves management principles, including prospect identification, and developing effective stewardship and solicitation strategies. The Major Gifts Officer will compile this information in a donor portfolio and emphasize gifts in excess of $10,000, with emphasis on those over $25,000 or greater. This individual will serve as a staff representative on the Museum’s Development Committee of the Board, and work directly with staff leadership to coordinate and execute long-term fundraising initiatives. This is a full-time, regular position that reports directly to the Director, Individual and Major Gifts.

Internships

The Museum does not currently have any internship opportunities available at this time.

Volunteers

Primary Volunteer Positions are located at the Main Entrance Greeter Desk. Volunteers will be assigned a regular weekly two-hour time slot. Preference is given to those available on weekends. Some volunteers will initially be trained only as substitutes. Volunteers who have at least one year of experience at the Greeter Desk may apply to be trained as Docents to give exhibition tours to visitors.
