Gifts of Stock
An outright gift of appreciated marketable securities is one of the most attractive methods of realizing your charitable goals while supporting the Museum of the City of New York. Such a gift has the following benefits:
- A federal income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities on the date of your gift, provided you have owned the securities for more than one year
- Avoidance of capital gains tax on the transfer
To make a gift of marketable securities to the Museum, please contact the Museum’s Development Office at (212) 534-1672 ext. 3320 or info@mcny.org with the name and number of shares being transferred and how you would like the gift to be used. We will provide you with the Museum’s bank information including a DTC number and account number and notify you once the transfer is complete.
