Moments of stillness and change — discover an unrecognized master of street photography.
A City Seen: Todd Webb’s Postwar New York, 1945-1960 examines New York through the keen eyes, and lens, of master street photographer Todd Webb. Featuring more than 100 images and accompanied by entries from Webb’s own journal, this poetic collection of images highlights Webb’s personal exploration of the city that enthralled him, while providing an expansive document of a city in the midst of vibrant change. Webb’s images captured a city of contrasts—from skyscrapers to tenements, high-powered businessmen to children at play. Also featured are portraits by Webb of members of his intimate circle of friends, including Alfred Stieglitz, Berenice Abbott, Harry Callahan, Gordon Parks, and Lisette Model. Although Webb never became famous, his peers recognized his outsized talent and unique perspective, which is only now being discovered by the rest of the world.
