Stations of the Elevated: New York Graffiti on Film
Thursday, August 14 at 6:30 pm
Director Manfred Kirchheimer’s unnarrated 45-minute film, with music by Charles Mingus and Aretha Franklin, explores graffiti as a reaction to the city’s social and economic crisis in the 1970s. Completed in 1980, this lyrical, rarely seen documentary captures the exuberant height of the graffiti movement in New York. A discussion with Kirchheimer will follow.
