New Yorkers and Baseball: A Book Talk
Wednesday, June 25 at 6:30 pm
Join noted authors and baseball fans George Vecsey, Kevin Baker, Stefan Fatsis, and Lee Gutkind, contributors to the new anthology, For the Love of Baseball: A Celebration of the Game That Connects Us All, co-edited by Lee Gutkind and Andrew Blauner (Skyhorse Publishing, May 2014). They’ll discuss why the drama, romance, and lasting traditions of baseball make it the best sport to write about in New York. Co-sponsored by the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center, New York Empire Baseball, Creative Nonfiction magazine, NoPro Sports, and the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) New York City Chapter.
"This collection of 20 essays, most of them never before published, is not a New York book, per se, but it brims with lyrical reminiscences about the love affair between the city and the sport…What ties these charming essays together? 'The collection,' Mr. Gutkind writes, represents 'the connective tissue' of the game, from the mitts to the stadiums that collectively constitute 'our common nostalgia for the way it was, and our fervent hope that the sport will endure the way we think it always should be.'" – Sam Roberts, The New York Times
